Summer Pops

Project Objective

This annual concert, held in Wilcox Park, Downtown Westerly, Rhode Island, brings together local talent and professional musicians for a night of music. The poster needed to be vibrant and fun, capturing the event’s spirit and including all essential information, from event details to sponsor logos. To create a poster that truly represents the Summer Pops event, I started by researching The Chorus of Westerly and the concert itself. This event is a community favorite, known for its mix of music and firework display. Understanding the event’s significance and the audience it attracts helped me shape the design direction.

Developing the Poster

Background and Imagery
  • Background Image: Selected a plain background and put fireworks and adjusted its opacity to ensure it didn’t overpower the text.
  • Saxophone and Record: Placed the saxophone in the foreground and positioned the record to complement the musical theme.
Typography
  • Headline: Used a bold, eye-catching font.
  • Event Details: Chose complementary fonts for the event details.
  • Sponsor Logos: Positioned the sponsor logos at the bottom, making sure they were visible but not distracting.
Color Scheme
  • Primary Colors: Used navy blue for the main elements.
  • Accents: Incorporated orange and teal for highlights and white for text contrast.

Finalizing the Design

After creating the initial design, we created other layouts.

Post Cards: To ensure invitations got out to the public or for a vacation souvenir.

Banners: To promote the concert and bring everyone to the event.

Social Media Post: To get the news out to everyone on social media.
